Burt is married to Teresa, who is a retired teacher. Burt and Teresa have three children, Patrick, Amy and Ryan. Patrick is a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy. He and his wife, Leigh, and daughter Ashleigh live in Virginia Beach, VA. Amy is a Patient Counselor for Johnson City Eye Clinic. She, her husband Jason, and children Emme, Sarah Cate and Case live in Gray, TN. Ryan is a tire engineer for Yokahama Tire Co. He, his wife Julie, and children Meg, Caroline and Mary live in Charlotte, NC. Burt enjoys hiking, biking, and of course, spending time with his seven grandchildren.
